Styrah by Exileden Styrah by Exileden
Another creature done by markers. this time is Terryl's project creature (her creature concept and my own design of creature species), so all courtesy belongs to her and Archwing Studios. Just posted because I started liking more and more copic markers.

As always, not good job done by scanner.

Ha ha, awesome Styrah!! :) Are you enrolled in the Tale of Amalthea course? Anyway, you did a brilliant job on this creature. Copic markers look really good, I want to try those someday.

If you're having scanner issues, try using a HD digital camera. It works well for me.

Aww, I hate seeing people blame their scanner, because it makes me feel like the only person who never (admits to) having that trouble. I think I can see a tiny bit of washout in the highlights (antlers and tail decor) but that's hardly an image breaker; the gamma ramp's good and the grey colors work, so the image as a whole looks awesome.

Even if your scanner ate the picture, this is still very, very impressive marker work. The subtle detail and complex shading are beautiful.

Markers are seriously my favorite medium and it makes me mad when my professor says that they're "not a professional medium"..well I'm going to show him these and say "Ha, in your face! Look how amazing these are!" no no no, first I'll ask him what medium HE thinks they were done in..haha yes, my plan is perfect

:iconexileden:
Exileden Featured By Owner Jul 12, 2012
Oh, no. Copics are indeed very professional medium. Lots of well known industry artists work with copics in their profession. Maybe there is just simply redline between crayola markers bought in childrens store and copic markers purchased in art store :3 So simply he might got mistaken with typical markers...

This is incredible =D I was at her session at the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators conference today =D I'm taking a workshop with her on Saturday as well. She is just an amazing artist and so creative! Your ideas for and drawing of this are spectacular =] I like your alterations, the color especially. Haha sorry for the long comment as well, I love all of your art and I don't think I've ever really said do. So...I love your work! I always look forward to seeing it =] =] You're a great inspiration for me ^_^

I'd so love to catch up on that conference but dammit on that all stuff is exclusive in California x_x... so being in different side of the world, I couldn't make it. What she was lecturing about? :)
And thank you a lot

You're very welcome ^^ your gallery and style is definitely one of my favorites on here. The conference is in Savannah, Georgia this time =D thankfully I was in a driveable distance this year since I'm visiting Florida for a while. It's the first one I've been to. Terryl was talking about her various jobs from Star Wars to Brother Bear and some of the work she did for them and her process of building creatures from the skeleton, to the muscles, to the actual skin and fur/feathers. It was a great presentation =] The workshop I'm taking on Saturday will be very similar but I believe she'll be working with all of us on creating our own imaginary creature ^_^

And what kind is workshop that? Which one it was? Is it part of that conference or?

It was one for working on creature design and it was a part of the conference. She talked a bit about anatomy and how she thinks about the animals she makes and helped people in the workshop create one. I got an original concept drawing from here and sh signed my book ^^ I'll be uploading my final drawing of our creature sometime soon, we just got back from the trip and and I have to get back on track first lol

Unfortunately, not many people are. The books are a great read. Lucas Films owns them, but has done anything other than publish. The books ARE separate from the StarWars verse, despite what a number of sites with poorly researched data state.
