I don't do ART for free by Exileden I don't do ART for free by Exileden
Please read whole artist's comment.

This drawing I did some time ago for a community with an important message. Lately I've heard often those quotes like that, so I decided to twitch into a drawing instead just letters of that quote for a community. This message regards for working artists. And I'm not talking about art as general meaning and art is for money, but the service for others when someone asks us to draw what they want.
I thought also to put there.

That's why we, working artists, don't do any free requests as a service for others when we are asked.
I still get often a requests from people, and here is an excellent quote from my friend ~WildSpiritWolf faq, which explains a lot for those who can't see/understand the view of another person:

Q: Why won't you do a picture/tattoo/etc. for me for free? It's silly that I have to pay to have you make something for me.

A: Please try to see this from another person's point of view. I'm sorry but I do not work for free and have no plans to change that. Commissions are my full time job so if I did art for free, I would have no money. Plus I would be ridiculously busy because so many people would be lining up to get free art from me. So at that point, I would be broke and would be drowning in free art requests which would leave me very stressed and unhappy.

Simply, art is our job. The feeling where we work on art is the same as we would do other job.

You can share that picture and spread around. I permit people to use this on facebook, blogs, websites, communities, tumblr etc. and feature it anywhere. I made it to be shared- we are about to share that art is part of our job to everyone If you agree with this :]
Feel free to share this!

But please DO NOT remove my signature and link to website and do not claim that you drew it. Do not use for also for commercial goals, ask me if you plan to do! :]

For the information: This is my own opinion and feeling with this, as well among the other artist. I made it for my group of artist community where I am in where they share the same feeling about it and that's it. It is NOT a law, order or even "it has to be". Everyone may have different opinions, and if someone things doing free requests is ok, it's totally fine! Free requests aren't bad, but for some people there is a limit reached where some artists can't do anymore due to clear reasons as being working artists. If you agree with this, that's fine, you may share and show your own feelings, if not, that's fine! Just do what you want :) Remember what I posted, it's also my feeling and opinion with others but not with everyone. Everyone has a right to their own feelings and that's a clean explaination why we don't do free requests. Even, personally I have not positive experience with "free requests" from people whom I do not know in the past.
Doing personal art and projects where I put my feelings and free thoughts, I have fun and enjoyment what I love, thus doing commission work is totally different feeling- a feeling of my duty and job.

Personally I still do "free work" which is an exception known as a gifts for my close people who I very cherish, working on art for them I think about them. It has positive feelings of the bonds and memories with them. And another, I'm active person in charity foundations/organizations, where I volunteer doing visual graphics where I also enjoy of a help for others in my foundation. I find it's priceless feeling being part of foundation and helping whose are in a need, being among with those fantastic people and fighting with life crisis.

Since there were many questions regarding art =/= fun, I hope that will explain :] [link]

Also to mention, I think the most beautiful art creations are when we do personal artwork. We put our own thoughts, own feelings, emotions and freedom- our world is put on the paper. No one should comment us what we should do when we create own and personal artwork from the heart.
I found the origin where that part of text quote comes from: www.hesaidteeshed.com

Like anything, art is a service that people offer, so it deserves a decent price for the amount of time and effort that it takes to create something, but it rarely ever gets that, because people don't appreciate the process as much as they do the final product.
So, while it's crazy to expect a living wage off of art (unless you're one of the privileged few who have an endless string of clients who are willing to pay a hefty price, and you can pump the art out quickly), but it's even crazier for others to expect it for free. It makes as much sense to expect a free Swedish massage at a spa just because you asked.

I love how added a person along with the message, it makes stronger and unique. People need to understand that talented artists won't do everything their fans ask them to do.

Great dude. It's annoying when people look at you crazy if you talk about money. It takes a lot of time to create stuff. I have two jobs and I take away from my sleep just to draw and animate. Thanks for posting this though.

even if you dont have bills to pay, no one is owed free labour. i live with my parents and go to high school but i also take commissions and i dont give ppl things for free. if you want someone to work for you, and they arent offering it for free, you need to cough up some money. you dont go to a book store and go "it would make me really happy if you gave me this for free uwu its art so i dont need to pay uwu the author has passion and thats enough uwu uwu" you pay money just like everyone else

May I share this with my organizational communication students?  My daughter is an artist and my husband is a computer programmer.  Oftentimes, they are (will be) asked to work for free. I will of course include your link and give you credit for your work. I know you state above that this image can be shared, but I wanted to double-check.

People have asked me to draw them for free, too, whether they be a parent, other family member/extended relative or friend. I'm pretty quick to shut them down. I do a lot of portrait work and people think it takes me like.. ten minutes to bust one out. it takes hours , sometimes days . >:I

ok but art for free makes people happy ... that is why peoples make art . some people without money sometimes deserve some happyness ...as an young artist i belive that art is not  an job ...is an hobby ..art is not an obtion.. you like to draw...be an animator not an artist ...artist are payed cheap and deserve more ...but other peoples deserve more too... an animator is an creator and everyone enjoy your work without paiing for it ...

For you it may be a hobby, but there are people that love tart enough to make it their job. But just because they love it doesn't mean that they won't need and want money when doing it for other people. If you are a doctor that loves his job, you'd still charge people and no one would go to a restaurant demanding free food and service. This isn't trying to forbid people from doing free art, but raising awareness on how badly artists often get treated.
They are often forced to sell it on low prices and take on jobs at the side to make ends meet because our society sees it as some easy thing anyone could do, without comprehending the many many years of rigorous training and the vast amount of knowledge needed to create art, nevermind the many hours it can take to create great art.

When art is purchased, most people forget that they are buying not only a thing of meaningful beauty, but often a result of thousands of hours of practice, study, heartache and hope! Sweating a little...

I'm relatively new to drawing for other people, and already I can speak from experience, that I have learned my lesson about doing free art. I actually offered free art and it's surprising how unappreciated it is.  And it's alarming how ungrateful people are to receive free art. No Tip, no acknowledgement, nothing.  Sometimes not even a thank-you.  Artists work hard to develop their skill and to ask for their blood, sweat, and tears for nothing is absurd and insulting.

Too much people disrespect artists saying, " oooo, ooooo!! DRAW ME!!!! PLEASE!! FOR FREE TOOOO!!!!!."

If they want good art of themselves, they either pay, or do it, THEMSELVES.

It is always good to remember that not all artists are doing it for fun although it can be fun, art has historically been quite valuable. Even those of us who do not do it full time would often like to be able to make a living doing it.

Hey, I love this illustration! I am currently writing a legal guide for artists - it is going to be a freebie on my website. This piece of work is super appropriate to the subject. Would you give me permission to use this illustration in my guide?
I am also looking for additional illustrations in my guide. If you are interested in illustrating for an artists' legal primer (for free to artists)- can we chat?
